CAIRO - Mohamed Badr, Enppi club president, said that he will ask the CAF to transfer their second-leg round of 16 match in the African Confederation Cup against Cercle de Bamako of Mali on May 12 to somewhere outside Mali. Enppi grabbed a 3-1 win over Cercle in the first leg in Cairo last Saturday, thanks to Ivorian striker Vincent Di Foneye, who grabbed a brace, while Amr el-Halawani scored once. The coaching staff of the petroleum team were due to travel to Mali on May 8 in readiness for the return match, but, after Monday's counter-coup, they will ask the CAF to transfer the game outside Mali. "We will ask the CAF to transfer our return match against Cercle de Bamako to another country, because of the crisis in Mali," Badr said. "We would be happy to host the match in Cairo and at our expense.” The Foreign Ministry affirmed that all the Egyptians in Mali are safe and none of them has been injured in the turbulence in the wake of Monday's military coup. Ahly football team were supposed to arrive home in Cairo on Tuesday after playing their first leg match in the round of 16 of the African Champions League against Stade Malien on Sunday, a fixture which the Malian team won 1-0. Meanwhile, the soldiers who staged a coup in Mali in March said they had thwarted Monday's counter-coup by foreign-backed forces loyal to the ousted president. Several people were killed in a gunfight on Monday between Mali coup troops and the presidential guard, loyal to ousted leader Amadou Toumani Toure, at the national TV and radio station.
