CAIRO Police have launched a large-scale manhunt for some young thugs thought to be behind a lightning attack that damaged a number of gates and turnstiles in Sadat Tube Station Saturday afternoon, security authorities said. More than ten knife-wielding youngsters attacked commuters and stole their valuables while they were waiting for the Helwan-bound train at the station, the authorities added. The young thugs attacked the passengers, who started screaming for help, witnesses told the police, adding that some of the passengers chased the attackers and tackled five of them, whom they dragged off to the nearest police post. Ali Metwalli, the Chairman of the Greater Cairo Underground Authority, told police that the young men who got away smashed gates, strip lights and turnstiles before fleeing the station. "As a precautionary measure, the Authority closed the entrance beneath the American University in Cairo to prevent further attacks on the station,” he added, blaming the incident on the street vendors and thugs that hang around Tahrir Square. Investigations into this incident continue, with police trying to establish the identity of the culprits, Metwalli explained.
