EFA: Ahly win in controversial game

CAIRO - Azmi Megahed, the executive manager of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), said that Al-Ahly officially beat el-Mahalla 2-0 on Saturday in Mahalla Stadium in the 11th week of the Egyptian Premier League.
"The EFA regulations clearly state that, if the fans of a particular team are responsible for the cancellation of a game, the opposing team are awarded a 2-0 win," Megahed said after the clash.
In the 53rd minutes of the match, el-Mahalla fans invaded the pitch en masse, after their defender Amr Ramadan scored.
This goal would have made the score 2-2, but the net at the Red Devils' end of the pitch was torn, so it was unclear whether the ball had actually entered the goal or not.
When the Mahalla fans spilled onto the pitch and started throwing stones at Ahly fans, the referee cancelled the game for security reasons.
"The team whose fans rioted will be further punished by having to play their home matches away from home and without the fans," added Megahed.
Amer Hussein, the head of the EFA Competitions' Committee, said that the committee will hold an urgent meeting today to discuss the matter.
Sayyed Abdel-Hafez, Ahly football manager, blamed the problem on the referee Yasser Abdel-Raouf taking so long to decide whether it was a goal or not.
“Ahly waited for the next 37 minutes, hoping to complete the game, but this didn't happen, so I ordered the lads to get changed so we could leave the stadium and travel home to Cairo,” he explained.
The Ahly players and coaching staff had to leave Mahalla in an armoured police van, because of the danger from the angry fans.
There were five other Premier League clashes on Saturday: Wady Degla vs Misr Elmaqasah (MCSD), Arab Contractors vs El-Gouna, Military Production vs Enppi, Police Union vs Al-Ittihad of Alexandria and the big Zamalek-Masry clash postponed from the eighth week.
Zamalek's technical coach Hassan Shehata was delighted by his team's 2-1 victory over El-Masry, indicating that the White Knights are only going to get even better.
"The match was really difficult; I want to thank all players for their perseverance," Shehata said after the game, praising their ‘respectable' opponents.
The ex-Egypt technical coach added that experience gave them the edge.
"El-Masry played a very organised game, but our players' skills and experiences were what made the difference," he explained, while not forgetting to praise the opponent's coaching staff under Talaat Youssef.
"This win has given us a boost, but I want even more from the players. I am not satisfied because they didn't follow the coaching staff's instructions.
"If the players had been a little less reckless and rash, they would have scored more goals," said the White Knights coach, admitting that the team missed the enthusiasm of the fans.
The goals of the match, played behind closed doors after being postponed, came from Ahmed Tewfiq and Shikaballah, while El-Masry netted through Abdullah Siecia.
The White Knights are now in fourth place in with 19 points from eight games, while Masry remain in eighth place on 12 points.
Meanwhile, Police Union defeated Al-Ittihad 1-0 thanks to a goal from Mohamed Maged. They go third place with 21 points, while Al-Ittihad remain in ninth with 12 points.
Arab Contractors stunned El-Gouna 4-1, thanks to goals from Ali Affifi, Moussa Kieri, Fakh Eddin Bin Mohamed and Mohamed Salah, while Gouna's strike came from Ahmed Hassan Farg.
The win puts Contractors in 16th place with seven points, while El-Gouna remain in sixth with 16 points.
Wady Degla held MCSD to a 3-3 draw. Degla are now in 11th place with 11 points and two postponed games, while MCSD slip to fifth with 16 points.
Elsewhere, Enppi beat Military Production 2-0, thanks to goals from midfielder Amr el-Halawani. Enppi are now in 13th place with nine points, while Military Production are in 15th on eight points.
Also, Smouha defeated El-Dakhlia 2-0, thanks to goals from strikers Hani el-Egazi and Samuel Foam, while Lama Kouna scored for Dakhlia. Smouha are now in 16th place with seven points, while El-Dakhlia are 18th on five points.
