CAIRO - The head of the central agency for public mobilization and statistics in Egypt (CAPMAS), Abu Bakr el-Guendi, announced that unemployment in the north African country rose by 11.9% in the third quarter of this year, an increase of 8.9% per cent over the figure for the same period in 2010. Guendi told a press conference in Cairo that the figures reflected a noticeable rise in unemployment rates in Egypt during the transitional period following the January 25 revolution. Guendi explained that the country's labour force reached 26.6 million between July and September, 2011, adding that some 3.2 million people were without jobs during the period. Overall, 76.6% of the unemployed are between the ages of 15 and 29 years.
