ALEXANDRIA - Customs officials in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria foiled a bid to smuggle into Egypt thousands of Chinese-made white weapons, electric shock devices and anesthetic gases, in a mobile phone cargo imported by an Egyptian company. "The Alexandria Investigation Department had some reports on the bid to smuggle white weapons, banned from being imported, for personal usage. We confiscated more than 46,000 weapons," a security official was quoted by the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) as saying. He added that the Public Prosecutors summoned owners of the company importing the cargo from China for questioning. Arms smuggling has been rife in Egypt after the January 25 revolution due to some security disorders sweeping the nation.
