CAIRO - ITEC Day will be celebrated in Cairo on 5th September. Egypt's Minister of Information Osama Haikal and Minister of Water Resources & Irrigation Hesham Qandil have kindly agreed to grace the event with their presence. A number of Egyptians who have been trained in various courses organised under the ITEC scheme in India will also attend the celebrations. Launched in 1964 as a programme of co-operation and partnership from India to address the needs of friendly developing countries, including in the area of human resource development, the Indian Technical and Economic Co-operation (ITEC) Programme is an important component of India's economic relations with Egypt. Under this programme of co-operation and partnership, India shares its technical expertise with Egypt. The scheme offers over 250 training courses in prestigious educational, technical and vocational institutes in India, in a variety of fields ranging from information technology to management, vocational training, banking, finance, the English language and so on. Around 300 Egyptian scholars have attended various short-term training courses in the past few years under the ITEC and related programmes. Encouraged by the considerable interest in Egypt in the scheme, it is planned to train 100 Egyptians this year.
