CAIRO – Arab League Secretary-General Nabil el-Arabi met Palestinian Foreign Minster Riad el-Malki on Sunday to discuss preparations for the meeting concerning the Arab peace initiative, which will be discussed in the United Nations, in order for the Palestinian State to get recognition, the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) reports. "El-Arabi said that he will meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas next week, to discuss this matter," el-Arabi was quoted by MENA as saying. When asked about Palestinian reconciliation, el-Arabi said the reconciliation hasn't failed, but people have different views about it. It is now making progress again. As for American pressure on the Palestinians not to go to the UN, al-Malki said: "We expect different pressures, from the US in the first place and then certain other countries, to prevent us getting UN recognition for the Palestinian State with pre-June 1967 borders, according to legitimate international resolutions. “We are aware that the US Congress is trying to threaten the Palestinian Authority and the UN. We anticipate more threats and pressure in the new few days. This is why the Arab states are working together to help the Palestinians prepare their case.”
