CAIRO – The Indian Cinema Club of the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian (MACIC) Culture in Cairo will be meeting on Thursday at 3:30pm at its premises at 23, Talaat Harb St., downtown Cairo. The event will begin with the screening of the Hindi film “Wake Up Sid” at 3:30pm which will be followed by a discussion steered by an expert on Indian films Nadia Jereidni. Magda Mourice, a well-known film critic of the Arabic language Al-Gumhuria newspaper will also attend the discussion. Directed by Ayaan Mukherji and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma, the film “Wake Up Sid” captures brilliantly but with a light touch, the young, effervescent and ambitious people of Urban India. Released in 2009, the story revolves around the main protagonist Siddharth (Ranbir Kapoor) whose indecisive- ness and lack of direction puts him at cross-purposes with his family and education. However, his friendship with Ayesha Bannerji (Konkana Sen Sharma), who is poised and focussed, steers and inspires him to seek a better-managed life. Apart from having a good soundtrack, the movie shows the beauty of Mumbai city, its youthfulness and its ever evolving culture. The MACICC has been screening India films, twice a week (Wednesdays and Thursdays) since its inception in 1992.
