Looking good for the camera
Published in The Egyptian Gazette on 22 - 01 - 2010

TODAY, she's spending a lot of time in front of the mirror choosing the clothes that fit her best and accessories that match, arranging her hair, doing her make-up, trying different colours of lip glosses and eye-lining methods, along with various colours of eye-shadow, to make herself just perfect.
This is what happens every time she decides to have her photo taken. All of us want to look as nice as we can for the camera, even nicer than we really are. Below are some tips to guarantee a good photo.
The photographer, the model her/himself, her/his positioning, the quality of the camera and the quality of the printout, the paper and printer, the lighting in the studio and also the relationship between the model and the photographer are all factors that have an impact on the photo.
"If all these factors are positive then you'll get the best photo," Antoine Georges, a photographer and the owner of the Antoine Georges studio, told the Egyptian Mail.
The first thing we should take care of when having our photo taken is our clothes, bearing in mind the background.
"Generally, floral clothes or those of two or more contrasting and also homogenous colours that can emphasise each other look great in a photo. The more homogenous and contrasting the colours, the better photo," Georges added.
"The worst photo might be of someone wearing a plain black T-shirt. It looks dull in the photo."
Everyone has some colours that suit them best. So, firstly select your most suitable colours. To get the best look, there are certain colours you should go for to match your skin and hair colours while there are others you should avoid. If you have dark-coloured hair and skin, then fiery colours like orange and dark red will suit you.
If you have light-brown or reddish hair and a light-coloured skin, ivory and dusty colours will be suitable for you. Avoid dark or reddish colours. If you are blonde, go for the blues and avoid oranges. If your skin is pale and your hair chestnut-coloured, red will make you very attractive. Also avoid large bags, as they can distract attention from you.
"Concerning make-up, keep it simple and natural.
Besides, avoid glitter as it reflects flashes, making the photo unclear," said Georges.
For your lipstick, if you don't have very white teeth, avoid dark colours as they will make your teeth look bad. Use light rose instead and make sure there are not any touches of lipstick on your teeth. Say ‘Yes' instead of ‘Cheese'. It will make the photo look better.
If you're being photographed out of doors, make sure that the sun is behind the camera or else you'll appear like a dark body.
How you feel also affects your photo. If you've had a bad night's sleep, you'll look pale, even if you try to conceal this with make-up.
If you're not relaxed or comfortable, this will also be apparent in the photo. A good photographer, even if he's not a professional, will make you relaxed and comfortable during the session. If he's talented too, he'll find the most suitable angle for photographing your face. He must also be creative and able to catch the right moment, as well as convincing his client of new ideas.
Finally, just before the photographer begins the countdown, close your eyes and remember your happiest moments, and you'll get the best smile ever.
