CAIRO - Officials at Cairo International Airport Sunday prevented more than 50 Libyans from entering Egypt after the Government has introduced new entry measures for the North African nationals, sources said. The measures stipulate that each Libyan national should obtain a pre-entry visa as well as a security no-objection certificate (NOC) from any Egyptian embassy or consulate before travelling to the country, the sources added. "Each Libyan citizen should have an entry visa and a security clearance certificate from any Egyptian diplomatic mission abroad," an airport official said. The move, he continued, aims to regulate the entry of the Libyans into the country by the authorities concerned. He said that the new measures, which came into effect at the nation's airports, seaports and border points, stipulate that any Libyan traveller must have an entry visa in advance, a round-trip air ticket and a security clearance certificate before coming to Egypt. Any Libyan tourist who does not comply with these rules will not be allowed to enter Egypt, the sources warned, adding that the impromptu decision caused chaos at Cairo International Airport Sunday. About 50 Libyan passengers, who arrived at the airport for work, family reunion, or leisure purposes, were prevented from entering the country because they did meet these new requirements, officials said. The new measures are affecting Libyans, who want to visit Egypt either to visit relatives living here, or spend time for leisure. The Government has begun enforcing these rules on all Libyan without an official announcement or prior notification, the officials added. The Libyans have to show airport officials that they have met these requirements in order to be allowed to enter the country, they said.
