CAIRO - The Ministry of Communications and Information Telecommunications said that the Government was reviewing a law that gave authorities permission to cut off mobile and Internet communications in the name of national security. Under ousted president Hosni Mubarak, Internet and mobile communications were cut for over 48 hours during the fiercest days of a populare revolt against his regime in late January. The governmental National Telecommunications Regulation Agency is currently reviewing the article and will suggest the required amendments to be enacted, The Gazette has learnt. 'The amended article will not be used to curb the rights of citizens to access information or to jeopardise their safety," said a Cabinet statement.
