CAIRO - The mid-year vacation for Government-run universities will be extended for one more week due to the current circumstances, whereas the nation's private and public school will re-open Saturday. Ahmed Gamal Eddin, who is the Minister of Education and Higher Education, said on wednesday that the Government decided that classes at all State-run universities would begin on March 5. "Due to the current conditions, the Ministry sees it fits that the mid-term holidays for Government-run universities, which was scheduled to end on February 19, be extended for one more week," Gamal Eddin said. However, he said that managers of privately owned universities were authorised to make the decision to open classes for their students pending on the condition and status of each university. He said the second term for all primary, preparatory and secondary schools would begin tomorrow (February 26) a week later than the Government had previously planned. The new date, has allowed the schools to take better steps for receiving their students. The governmental universities do not have enough security personnel for the time being and there are fears that students will stage protests against their administrators, say insiders.
