Can you believe the rain we had last week? Some people said that it also snowed!!! In Cairo? This is something we are not used to. British family pop quintet Five Star told us about “Rain or Shine”. Well, you know what they say about the English weather " you might see four seasons in one day.
That song was Five Star's biggest hit and frankly the only one I liked. If I get to choose between rain and shine, I'd much rather have the latter, thank you very much. However, what I want makes no difference… winter will stick around for a while.
In the meantime all I can do is go “Walking in the Rain” while listening to the song with the same name by British band Modern Romance. Romance? It is not romantic at all to walk alone in that weather. I wish I were “Walking in the Rain with the One I Love” as American girl group Love Unlimited did. This trio consisted of another family… well, a girl and her two cousins.
One of these cousins was married to American soul and R&B legend Barry White. The trio also used to sing backing vocals with him. As for the part of this song title that says “with the one I love”, being the monster I am… I
LOVE NO ONE!
I guess I will just walk down the streets alone, singing “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head”, but I will not win an Academy Award for it as its legendary writers Hal David and Burt Bacharach did.
Winning this award means that the song was featured in a movie, which is the classic “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, starring the brilliant Paul Newman and Robert Redford. Before I forget, that track was sung by American artist B.J. Thomas. Now I've said it all.
Winning awards or not, I do enjoy “Singing in the Rain”. Isn't this the name of a Gene Kelly movie title track? This American multitalented star is the best male dancer on the silver screen. That's my opinion, so don't argue.
He kept dancing even when he was in his 60s, of course in addition to the choreography he did. I believe he was involved in the choreography of my all time favourite movie “Grease”. Which is the same film that featured “It's Raining on
Prom Night”, by American artist Cindy Bullens, who used to sing backing vocals with Elton John.
“Rain” treats all people equally, even queens, like the Queen of Pop Madonna. Apparently she was too busy to take shelter, or even be properly dressed for the rain. Puerto Rican artist Jose Feliciano recorded a track with the same name as Madonna's number, but luckily it was a totally different one.
In other words, it was a good song. American rock ‘n roll icon Buddy Holly had a big problem… He cried out “Raining in My Heart”. We all know that it rains externally, but internally as well? That's something to worry about! It's complete Madness, which is also the name of a British band whose members spent their time discussing “The Sun and the Rain”.
I guess they were not sure how the day was going to be like…Until British duo Eurythmics made it clear and announced “Here Comes the Rain Again”. Oh no, not again please. One of the artists who covered “Rhythm of the Falling Rain” was Australian singer Jason Donovan. This man once said that his stepmother is European from Egypt! Excuse me?
Does that mean I'm European too? From now on I will only be paid in Euros. Still with Europe, everyone knows that Lebanon is a European country although it's in Asia! Lebanese-American singer/songwriter Paul Jabara wrote a couple of hits for stars like Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer, before co-writing one for the American duo the Weather Girls and it's called “It's Raining Men”.
Thank you very much, but I'm not interested in that kind of rain. I can't even say “I'll take a RAINcheck”! Incidentally, the Weather Girls were supposed to be huge in size, that when they were flying to the UK to promote that song it was rumored that each of them had to take to seats on the plane!
I'm sure many people wouldn't be happy if it rained men, so British band Supertramp thought of rewinding the whole situation, sweeping men away and singing “It's Raining Again”. I sincerely hope this time it's the normal kind of rain.
Oran Juice Jones saw his lover with another man and they were walking in “The Rain”. His heart was broken and he never had a big hit again neither in his country the States, nor anywhere else. Poor man.
On one of their songs, the world's finest band the Bee Gees said “and the rain will fall”, which happened countless times since that song was released. On a brighter note, the track is called “And the Sun Will Shine”. I look forward to that.
Incidentally, when twins Robin and Maurice were six, they were walking down a Manchester street with nine-year old brother Barry, who said “one day we will be famous” and 12 years later they were internationally successful!
This is very strange… almost as weird as Axl Rose the singer of American band Guns ‘n Roses, who had a lot to say about “November Rain” but didn't mention January at all.
Some people do prefer rain of course. Maybe that is why British legendary artists Phil Collins and Eric Clapton got together to make a song called “I Wish It Would Rain Down on Me”.
I surely hope they were wearing raincoats. Gladys Knight and the Pips told the world that there was “A Rainy Night in Georgia” and everyone believed them.
They are Americans, so they should know about the weather over there.
Other places in the USA hardly see any rain and that is why British artist Albert Hammond said “It Never Rains in Southern California”. Then he said “it pours”!!! Make your mind up please Albert.
Greek band Aphrodite's Child, which included Vangelis and Demis Roussos in its lineup, said that “Rain and Tears” are the same! A person who cries as much as it rained last week in Cairo has a serious problem. Maybe they are allergic to the music of Vangelis.
I can't blame them because it's always played at engagement and wedding parties. Then again when tears pour down like that, the first song that will cross my mind is “Cry Me ARiver”.
