CAIRO-An appeal court in the Nile Delta town of Tanta Sunday jailed two lawyers, accused of assaulting a local prosecutor and vandalism,to 37 months in prison each. The verdict reduced the five-year term passed by another court against the two lawyers last June. The two lawyers Ihab Saai and Moustafa Fatouh looked stunned when the Tanta Appeal Court passed the ruling in a quiet courtroom. Their defence lawyers said they would appeal again against the ruling. The court building was, meanwhile, cordoned off by anti-riot police though there were no protests as happened during the previous hearing sessions. The assault by the two lawyers on the prosecutor triggered a sharp dispute between the nation's lawyers and prosecutors. The lawyers went on a brief general strike in protest against what they said maltreatment from prosecutors and judges
