CAIRO- An administrative court in Cairo will hear next November a lawsuit filed by three Egyptian lawyers against Pope Shenouda, the head of the Egyptian Orthodox Church, requesting the court to commit him to release a Coptic Priest's wife who has allegedly converted to Islam. "The administrative court will hear the case on November 2 against Shenouda's decision to remand Camilia Shehata Zakhir in one of Cairo monasteries after she converted to Islam," Tareq Abou Bakr, a lawyer and one of the claimants said. He added that Shenouda's alleged decision to remand Camilia after she had become a Muslim should not be reversed. "Egyptian laws criminalise the detention of any Egyptian or foreign citizen regardless of their religion," Abou Bakr said. He added that Shenouda should release her if she was still Christian. Meanwhile, dozens of angry Muslims outside a major mosque in Cairo Saturday night against thealleged detection of Camilia in a monastery in on the outskirt of cairo. The protesters called on the authorities to intervene and release Camilia, raising banners calling for Al-Azhar to protect those who convert to Islam from the punishment of the Church. When Camilia, the 25-year-old wife of a Coptic priest, went missing for five days last month Christians account for around 10 million of egypt's 80 million population, Coptic Christian activists staged a series of angry protests in her home province of Minya and in Cairo accusing Muslims of her abduction and forced conversion to Islam. Camilia was later found at a friend's house . It has since emerged that she had left home of her own will, following domestic quarrels. the Church has denied that she has converted to Islam.
