CAIRO -Protesters from seven opposition groups Monday afternoon staged a demonstration outside the Cabinet headquarters in central Cairo against hikes in food prices. They banged empty pots with sppons in protest against recent increases in food prices. The protest came two days before the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan when food consumption usually rises. The protesters chanted anti-Government slogans and criticised the Government's policy, including the privatisation programme. The number of the protesters did not execeed 20, though the organisers of the demonstration had publicised it several days earlier.
