CAIRO- Political activists staged a protest in a Cairo working-class area Wednesday night against a recent wave of high prices. The protesters, including activists from the opposition movement Kefaya (Enough) chanted anti-Government slogans such as "We want a free government as life has become bitter". Egypt has recent been hit by a spate of price hikes, which coincided with the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan when food consumption usually rises. A woman protesters held a kerosen lamp in a sign of frequent power cuts. Anti-riot police cordoned off the demonstration held in Matariya in northern Cairo. But no clashes between the police and protesters were reported.
