By Ashraf Sadek: CAIRO, July 31, 2018 - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi Tuesday confirmed the key role played by the Supreme Constitutional Court since its establishment, in preserving and serving Egypt's legal and constitutional system. The president praised the court's great role in safeguarding the Egyptian Constitution and applying its articles. The president was speaking during the swearing in ceremony of Justice Hanafi Ali Giballi, who was appointed Chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court earlier in the day. President Sisi conferred the Republican Order – First Class – on the outgoing chairman of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Justice Abdel Wahab Hassan Abdel Wahab, in recognition of his services to the nation. He also appreciated the efforts of Justice Abdel Wahab to enforce law, protect justice and preserve the rights of the society and the citizens, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. Later on, President Sisi held two separate meetings with the Minister of Waqfs (Religious Endowments), Dr Mohamed Mukhtar Gomaa, and the Minister of the Environment, Dr Yasmine Fouad, Ambassador Bassam Radi said. Prime Minister Dr Moustafa Madbouli attended the two meetings. During the first meeting, President Sisi stressed the key role of the Religious Endowments Ministry in combatting terrorism and extremism while confirming the essence of true Islam, through highly-educated preachers. President Sisi once again emphasised that true Islam promotes peace, security, building and construction and peaceful co-existence among people, Ambassador Radi said. President Sisi instructed Minister Gomaa to make the best use of the religious endowments in order to increase their revenues, which belong to the state and needy people. In this regard, Minister Gomaa said that his ministry had earmarked LE300 million of the budget for Fiscal Year 2018/2019 to be spent on charity work and community services, to benefit the country's poor people. President Sisi also instructed the Minister of Waqfs to prepare an electronic database containing all the information about the ministry's mosques and fixed assets, for the purpose of restoring them and increasing their revenues. During the second meeting, President Sisi reviewed with the minister of the environment, a national plan for developing the waste recycling and management system in order to protect the health of the people and preserve the environment, Ambassador Radi said. The meeting also dealt with the ministry's preparations for hosting an international environmental conference on biological diversity that will be held in Egypt in November.
