CAIRO, July 26 , 2018 (MENA) - Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami condemned a "terrorist" attack by Houthi militants on two giant crude carriers in the Red Sea. In a statement on Thursday, Salami lashed out at the attack, saying it posed a serious threat to international peace and security. He urged the international community to immediately act on securing the strategic Red Sea shipping lane of Bab El Mandeb and bring to account Houthi rebels, as well as countries and other groups supporting them. The AP speaker has recently called on relevant UN bodies to take action against Houthi rebels' forced recruitment of children in Yemen. On Wednesday, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al Falih said that his country will be "temporarily halting" all oil shipments through Bab El Mandeb strait following Houthis' attack on two Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), each with a two million barrels capacity. The two carriers are operated by the Saudi National Shipping Company, Bahri, and Saudi Aramco. "In the interest of the safety of ships and their crews and to avoid the risk of oil spill, Saudi Aramco has temporarily halted all oil shipments through Bab El Mandeb Strait with immediate effect. The company [Saudi Aramco] is carefully assessing the situation and will take further action as prudence demands," the statement distributed by Saudi Aramco said.
