CAIRO, July 17, 2018 (MENA) - Egypt's Cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) denied reports circulated by media outlets that fake Chinese eggs are being sold in the local market. In its report on Tuesday, the center said that it had contacts with the Agriculture Ministry, which refuted the existence of adulterated food items, like "plastic eggs", which are imported from China, in the Egyptian markets. It is a "hoax" like the rumor of the Chinese "plastic rice" that has spread over the past days, the center made it clear. Egypt is 100% self-sufficient from table eggs. It produces from 11 to 12 billion commercial table eggs annually, the Agriculture Ministry said. There is no profit to produce fake eggs. To make a fake egg, the producer needs to make at least three layers, the egg shell, the egg white and the yolk, separately, and control the thickness of each one of the layers carefully to make it look "real" enough, driving the unit cost pretty high.
