CAIRO, April 1, 2018 - Minister of Environment, Khaled Fahmy, said yesterday the solid waste and garbage recycling project will be implemented in six governorates. Environment Ministry will contribute 40 per cent of the total cost of the roject, while the EU will provide the remaining 60 per cent. The Minister's statement came during a meeting with the governor of Kafer El Sheikh to discuss waste management strategy. Minister Fahmy noted that the third phase of waste management project in Kafer El Sheikh Governorate will cost LE170 million. The ministry is currently waiting for a new law regulating the management of solid waste, according to the Minister. In addition, the World Bank has allocated 23 million euros to finance the Kitchener Drain Depollution Project, while the Ministry of Environment allocated LE14 million to purchase cleaning equipment in Kafer El-Sheikh. Moreover, the Environment Ministry will finance the establishment of five plants for garbage recycling with a total cost of LE52 million in Kafer El Sheikh Governorate.
