Cairo, March 27, 2018 - The government is keen on developing and upgrading seaports nationwide, Prime Minister Sherif Ismail affirmed on Tuesday. The government has taken all the steps deemed necessary to boost the performance and efficiency of the ports with the aim of contributing to increasing their international competitiveness and boosting the handling of transported imports and exports, Premier Sherif said. Addressing the meeting with the new members of the Supreme Council for Ports, that was attended by Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat and the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Admiral Mohab Mamish, Premier Ismail said the upgrade of the country's ports helps reinvigorate tourism industry, taking into consideration the trend towards turning Egypt into a regional and global logistical hub for energy and trade within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030. The meeting reviewed the proposals and strategies of developing the country's seaports and discussed a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety and security of the maritime navigation. The meeting also discussed introducing amendments to the legislations regulating the activities of maritime and river transport. It also reviewed proposals to increase the competitiveness of Egyptian ports at the regional and international levels as well as the time schedules necessary to implement them in accordance with international standards to link country's ports to the national network of roads.
