CAIRO, March 24, 2018 - A meeting of the foreign ministers, ministers of irrigation and intelligence chiefs of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will be held in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum on April 2, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday. Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, said the meeting would be held in the light of instructions by the Presidents of Egypt and Sudan and the former prime minister of Ethiopia for finding a mechanism to solve pending issues between the three states. President Abdel Fattah ElSisi met his Sudanese counterpart, Omar al-Bashir, and former Ethiopia Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, in Addis Ababa, late in January on the sidelines of the meetings of the African Union's Peace and Security Council and agreed the mechanism. Abu Zeid said technical consultations between the three states have been stalled for several months now because of disagreement between them on the introductory technical report on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Egypt, he said, had proposed to request the presence of the World Bank as an advisory party to the feud. He added that the three countries' officials would try to find integrated solutions to the problems in the light of good relations between the three states. Egypt will participate in the meeting with an open mind, hoping solutions will be found, Abu Zeid said.
