In line with its commitment to strengthening cooperation with African central banks, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) hosted a delegation from the Bank of Tanzania to review best practices in business continuity, as part of an expertise-exchange programme. During the five-day visit, the Tanzanian delegation, comprising planning and management experts, gained insight into Egypt's pioneering experience in Business Continuity Management (BCM) and its role in enhancing the stability and sustainability of banking operations, as well as in enabling institutions to mitigate crises efficiently and effectively. Naglaa Nozahie, the Governor's Adviser for African Affairs at the CBE, said that hosting the Bank of Tanzania delegation reflects the CBE's strong commitment to expanding expertise-exchange programmes with African central banks, particularly in strategic areas such as business continuity and crisis management. She noted that the programme provided the visiting delegation with first-hand exposure to the best practices adopted by the CBE, contributing to the strengthening of institutional capacities and the enhancement of technical cooperation between the two countries. For his part, Shehab Selim, Assistant Sub-Governor of the CBE for the Risk Management Sector, welcomed the Tanzanian delegation and highlighted that the CBE has successfully obtained ISO 22301 certification, reflecting its leading role in adopting and implementing the highest standards in BCM. He said this ensures a timely and effective response to crises and emergencies, and reaffirmed the CBE's readiness to share its expertise in business continuity and risk management with specialists from African central banks. The visit included a field tour of alternative operational sites to review the systems in place. The Tanzanian delegation also took part in discussion sessions featuring presentations on the challenges facing institutions and the strategies used to address them through effective BCM. The sessions further covered approaches to building business continuity capabilities to ensure preparedness for potential challenges or operational disruptions, while underscoring the critical role of senior management support in the success of business continuity programmes. The Tanzanian delegation forms part of a series of ongoing visits by specialised missions from African central banks to the CBE, aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and leveraging Egypt's distinguished expertise across key central banking areas, including cybersecurity, payment systems and banking supervision.
