Egypt, Qatar explore joint industrial projects to strengthen economic cooperation
Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 12 - 2025

Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel Al-Wazir held high-level talks with Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, Qatar's Minister of Foreign Trade, to explore the launch of joint Egyptian-Qatari industrial projects aimed at deepening economic cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Qatar's Ambassador to Egypt, alongside senior officials from Egypt's Ministries of Industry and Transport.
During the discussions, Al-Wazir underscored the strong and longstanding ties between Egypt and Qatar, highlighting their shared commitment to expanding economic and industrial cooperation. He stressed that Egypt places particular importance on partnerships with Arab countries, especially integrative projects that leverage available resources and enable the exchange of expertise to generate mutual benefits and support sustainable development.
Talks focused on opportunities to enhance industrial cooperation through joint projects in strategic sectors, as well as measures to optimise supply chains and regional manufacturing integration. Al-Wazir noted that Egypt's industrial base is both diverse and well established, pointing to sectors such as aluminium, automotive manufacturing and textiles as areas offering strong potential for value-added collaboration. He explained that many final products in these industries—such as aluminium sheets, automotive components and manufactured textiles—depend on multiple production inputs, creating clear opportunities for joint Egyptian-Qatari ventures.
The minister also emphasised the importance of cooperation in maritime transport, particularly in the management and operation of container and general cargo terminals. He highlighted Egypt's recent expansion in port infrastructure, including the addition of five new ports, the construction of new berths and terminals, and the deepening of navigational channels. These developments, he said, have increased Egypt's handling capacity to around 40 million TEUs and 400 million tonnes of cargo annually, supported by the presence of major global shipping lines and operators. This has contributed to improved international rankings and reinforced Egypt's position as a regional maritime hub.
For his part, Al-Sayed commended the strength of bilateral relations and reaffirmed Qatar's interest in expanding economic partnerships with Egypt, particularly in sectors that promote industrial and investment integration. He noted that joint projects could support the national economies of both countries and open the door to long-term strategic cooperation.
The meeting concluded with both sides expressing their commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue and accelerating the implementation of joint initiatives, reflecting the strategic depth of Egypt-Qatar relations and supporting industrial and commercial development across the region.
