Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated on Wednesday that Egypt is actively working to solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and proceed with the implementation of the agreement signed in January. Speaking at an event organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowments to celebrate Laylat al-Qadr (Night of Destiny), Al-Sisi reiterated Egypt's commitment to the Palestinian cause. "I reiterate that Egypt will continue to exert every effort to support the just Palestinian cause and strive diligently to consolidate the ceasefire and proceed with the implementation of the remaining stages of the agreement," he said. Al-Sisi called upon "partners and friends" to mobilise efforts to halt the bloodshed and restore calm and stability to the region. Egypt and Qatar, in cooperation with the United States, are continuing mediation efforts to encourage Israel and Hamas to continue implementing the ceasefire agreement signed in mid-January. During the Ministry of Religious Endowments celebration, al-Sisi also addressed domestic issues and expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian people. "My respect and appreciation for the Egyptian people is immense," Al-Sisi said. "Despite the difficult period that the region and Egypt are going through, they have shown solidarity, cohesion and unity, which is highly appreciated, admired and respected." He added, "This is not new to the Egyptians, they are always different in difficult situations. They forget everything and overcome everything. Any difficulties or problems are never present in their minds. In my name and in all your names, I extend to the Egyptian people all respect, pride and admiration." Al-Sisi also expressed confidence in Egypt's ability to overcome challenges. "Many people were betting that the difficult circumstances we are going through would have a negative impact on Egypt and its people, but thanks to God, we are a cohesive, strong, and patient nation. Do not worry, because God is on our side, and no one can do anything," he said. "I am firmly convinced that our unity, which knows no defeat, our inherent strength, and our adherence to our values and timeless principles, will be the key to overcoming all challenges and surpassing all the difficulties that stand in our way," al-Sisi added.
