FRA reports EGP 299bn in financing by entities under its supervision in Q4 2024

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) announced that total financing provided by entities under its supervision reached EGP 299bn in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024. This figure includes capital market activities and non-banking financial services. According to the FRA's latest report, stock issuances accounted for EGP 148.3bn, while debt instrument issuances totaled EGP 32.3bn. Leasing contracts contributed EGP 36.5bn, financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) reached EGP 28.1bn, and consumer financing amounted to EGP 19.4bn. Factoring transactions were valued at EGP 26.6bn, and mortgage loans stood at EGP 7.7bn. Additionally, movable asset registrations under the secured transactions registry reached EGP 3.1tn.
Private insurance funds made new investments totaling EGP 6.7bn, while total insurance premiums amounted to EGP 25.7bn. Of this, EGP 14.4bn came from property and liability insurance, and EGP 11.3bn was from life and savings insurance. The insurance sector also paid out EGP 13.4bn in total claims, with EGP 6.4bn allocated to property and liability insurance payouts and EGP 6.9bn for life and savings insurance claims.
In the microfinance sector, companies accounted for 65.56% of total financing, issuing EGP 41.5bn in December 2024. Category A NGOs and associations followed with a 31.96% market share, providing EGP 20.2bn in financing. Category C NGOs and associations held a 1.42% share, issuing EGP 898m, while Category B NGOs and associations accounted for 1.06%, with EGP 670m in financing. By sector, commercial activities made up 57.47% of total microfinance funding, valued at EGP 36.3bn. Agricultural financing followed with a 23.21% share, totaling EGP 14.6bn, while service sector financing reached EGP 8.4bn, representing 13.42% of total funding. Production-related activities accounted for 5.90% of financing, amounting to EGP 3.7bn in December 2024.
Regarding borrower demographics, males received 53.92% of total microfinance financing, amounting to EGP 34.13bn, while females accounted for 46.08%, receiving EGP 29.16bn. As of December 2024, total microfinance balances increased to EGP 63.3bn, up from EGP 50.6bn in December 2023. However, the number of beneficiaries declined to 3.7 million, compared to 3.8 million the previous year.
The FRA continues to oversee financing trends across various sectors, ensuring sustainable growth in Egypt's financial landscape.
