Egypt's Minister of Labour Mohamed Gobran announced on Sunday, August 27, that the minimum emergency aid for workers whose companies face challenges will be increased from EGP 600 to EGP 1,500. This decision follows directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
The announcement came during a meeting of the Emergency Labour Aid Fund board, held at the Ministry of Labor headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. Gobran emphasized the fund's commitment to supporting workers affected by unexpected challenges.
"The Emergency Labour Aid Fund will continue to support and assist workers in facilities that face emergency challenges by paying their wages," he stated.
Gobran stressed the importance of the fund's role in providing care and protection for workers, whom he described as "the soldiers of work and production." He added that the fund is fulfilling its national duty by supporting workers whose companies face internal or external challenges and crises until they fully recover and production resumes.
The board announced that the fund has spent EGP 2.231bn since its establishment in 2002, up to the end of July 2024. This aid has benefitted 424,019 workers in 3,986 facilities.
The meeting was attended by board members, including Abdel Hamid Salama, Secretary General of the fund; Mohamed Atiya El-Fioumy, representative of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce; Hesham Amin Ahmed, representative of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Tourism; Khaled Aish, representative of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation; and several other officials.
