Gaza war death toll surpasses 39,000 amid ongoing Israeli attacks
Published in Daily News Egypt on 22 - 07 - 2024

The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that in the past 24 hours, Israeli occupation forces carried out three massacres against civilians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in 23 deaths and 91 injuries. This brings the total toll of Israeli aggression since 7 October to 39,006 deaths and 89,818 injuries.
Additionally, Philippe Lazzarini, the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), revealed that Israeli forces fired upon a United Nations convoy heading to Gaza City on Sunday, despite its clear UN markings and coordination with Israeli authorities. A UN agency vehicle was hit by five bullets while waiting at an Israeli military checkpoint in central Gaza.
In a related development, the Israeli army issued a statement urging civilians to evacuate eastern neighbourhoods in Khan Yunis and move toward the Al-Mawasi area. This move is in preparation for a new military operation, prompted by rocket launches from what Israel designates as the humanitarian zone east of Khan Yunis. The operation aims to target structures allegedly used by the Hamas organization, based on accurate intelligence information. Residents are advised to stay away from the combat zone.
Meanwhile, Israeli army data showed that 7 Israeli soldiers were injured in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
According to data published by the occupation army on its website, the number of soldiers injured since the beginning of the war on 7 October 2023 reached 4,199, 2,147 of whom were injured in the ground operation that began on 27 October 2023.
For its part, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), reported that it targeted an Israeli "Merkava 4" tank with an "Al-Yassin 105" shell in the Al-Furqan neighbourhood in Tal Al-Sultan, west of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.
It added that it killed and wounded members of an Israeli force holed up inside a building in the Al-Furqan neighbourhood in Tal Al-Sultan, west of Rafah. Al-Qassam also said that it, in conjunction with the Popular Front, bombed the occupation forces northeast of the Bureij camp in the centre of the Gaza Strip with mortar shells.
