Egypt's national team was crowned the 2022 WSF Women's World Team Squash Champion after defeating the American team 2-0 in the final match to achieve the title for the fifth time in its history.
Egyptians has been maintaining its supremacy of the squash game, whether in terms of the number of world championships that Egypt has achieved over the past few years or the top players of the men's and women's world rankings.
The championship concluded with a huge concert by Sharmoofers, which was attended by a large number of fans.
The 2022 WSF Women's World Team Squash Championship witnessed the participation of 17 countries, including the US, China, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Australia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Scotland, Wales, and South Africa, along with Egypt, which is hosting the tournament for the second time after organising it for the first time in 2008.
Omar Hisham Talaat — Chief Business Development Officer at Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) — said that Madinaty Sporting Club's hosting of the 2022 Squash World Cup is the second global sporting event hosted by TMG's clubs.
Previously, Madinaty hosted the Asian Tour series golf championship, in which 120 players from more than 40 countries participated. He added that the group's clubs have ambitions to become a meeting place for world championships in light of their unique and distinguished capabilities, which contribute to the revitalisation of sports tourism in Egypt.
For his part, Minister of Youths and Sports Ashraf Sobhy affirmed that Egypt has become an international destination to host major tournaments thanks to the many advantages enjoyed by the sports facilities and infrastructure, which dazzled the whole world in the various international forums that were held on its soil.
The minister also thanked the Hisham Talaat Moustafa Foundation for their continuous support of the sports and youth sector in Egypt by organising this tournament, which is a testament to the fruitful cooperation between the private and government sectors, praising the distinguished level of Madinaty Sporting Club.
Furthermore, World Squash Federation (WSF) President Zena Wooldridge confirmed that Egypt is able to host new international squash tournaments in light of the wide support and popularity of the game, as well as the distinguished media coverage throughout the days of the current world championship.
Wooldridge also praised the distinguished organization of the 2022 WSF Women's World Team Squash Championship — which was held at Madinaty Sports Club from 10 to 16 December — and thanked TMG for its contribution and support for hosting and organising the tournament.
The WSF approved TMG's hosting of the championship in light of its distinguished sports stadiums, represented in the squash complex that includes 11 courts, in addition to the main glass stadium that hosted the semi-final and final matches of the tournament that can accommodate about 1,200 attendees.
