Egypt will raise African aspirations in combating climate change during COP 27: FM
Published in Daily News Egypt on 06 - 02 - 2022

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry asserted that Egypt will raise the African continent's aspirations in facing the impacts related to climate change during the United Nations' Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) that will be held in Sharm El-Sheikh in November.
His remarks came during his participation on Sunday in a meeting of the African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change, which was held in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa on the side-lines of the 35th session of the African Union Summit.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez said that during the meeting, Shoukry confirmed that Egypt will be keen on presenting the effects of climate change on Africa during the COP 27.
The minister also clarified that the harsh climatic phenomena the world is witnessing are a clear reminder of the severe impact of climate change on the African continent despite being the lowest contributor to polluting emissions.
Furthermore, he hailed the results of last year's COP 26, which was held in Glasgow, adding that there is still much to be done to confront climate change.
Shoukry asserted that Egypt seeks to exert all possible efforts to actually implement programmes to help combat the repercussions of climate change.
Moreover, he affirmed Egypt's adoption of a comprehensive approach to tackle the issue, taking into consideration the priorities of each party.
He also asserted Egypt's aspiration to support all African countries in their efforts to face the effects of climate change.
