Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in Cairo on Tuesday to discuss boosting economic cooperation, the Cabinet said. The talks included Russia's planned industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) and progress at Egypt's first nuclear power plant in El-Dabaa. The officials also discussed cooperation in energy, tourism, transport, water desalination, agriculture, food security and mining, the statement added. The meeting built on discussions between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin during Victory Day celebrations in Moscow last May. Overchuk, who toured the SCZONE on Tuesday with Russian business leaders, stressed Moscow's interest in the industrial zone project and expanding ties in trade, industry, agriculture, food processing, energy and logistics. Madbouly welcomed Egypt's hosting of the second Russia-Africa Partnership Forum ministerial conference in November 2025, saying the event would strengthen cooperation between Egypt, Russia and African countries.
