Egypt's Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly has met with senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Cai Qi and encouraged Chinese firms to invest more in Egypt, according to a Cabinet statement. On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit 2025, Madbouly urged Chinese companies to invest in Egypt in electric vehicle manufacturing, renewable energy components, and water desalination. Madbouly highlighted China's position as Egypt's largest trading partner and praised the role of Chinese companies in major national projects in construction, transport, and industry, the statement added. The prime minister said Egypt was keen to attract electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing to the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), alongside cooperation in solar and wind energy projects, according to the announcement. Madbouly also reaffirmed Egypt's full support for China's sovereignty and the One-China policy, while briefing Cai on developments in Gaza and Egypt's efforts to achieve a ceasefire and alleviate humanitarian suffering. Cai praised Egypt's participation in the summit and highlighted the upcoming 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He expressed China's support for EV production and water desalination projects in Egypt. He further welcomed Egypt's hosting of the upcoming conference on Gaza's recovery and reconstruction, emphasising alignment between Cairo and Beijing on the Palestinian cause, the report added.
