Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Tuesday urged China to direct part of its $52 billion pledged investments to Africa into Egypt, as he met with senior Chinese Communist Party (CPC) official Li Shulei in Cairo. Li, a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, is leading a high-level delegation aimed at deepening bilateral ties. The visit comes as Egypt seeks to boost foreign investment and expand industrial cooperation with Beijing. "We welcome Chinese investment in strategic sectors such as electric vehicles, mobile phone manufacturing, and infrastructure," Prime Minister Madbouly said, adding that Egypt's location and industrial zones, such as the TEDA Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), offer competitive advantages. The prime minister also reiterated Egypt's support for the "One China" policy and praised China's stance on non-interference in internal affairs. He highlighted China's role in supporting Egypt's infrastructure drive, including electric rail projects, port development, and the central business district in the new capital. Li commended Egypt's economic and urban development over the past decade and expressed Chinese interest in expanding cooperation in tourism, culture, and heritage preservation. He said Chinese investors were keen to explore opportunities in the Egyptian market and that media outlets would be encouraged to promote Egypt as a cultural and tourism destination. The Egyptian government has recently eased visa procedures for Chinese tourists, including offering visas on arrival, as part of efforts to revive the tourism sector. Prime Minister Madbouly and Li also expressed hope that the upcoming BRICS summit in Brazil would further strengthen multilateral cooperation. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
