Published in Daily News Egypt on 21 - 12 - 2021

Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aty, met on Tuesday with András Kovács, the Hungarian Ambassador in Cairo, and non-resident ambassador to Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, and Chad.
The meeting discussed strengthening areas of cooperation between the two countries in the field of water resources and irrigation, including projects of water lifting stations and sewage treatment, in light of Abdel Aty's visit to Hungary to participate in an exhibition and conference "Planet Budapest 2021", which was held from 29 November to 5 December, 2021.
During the meeting, Abdel Aty welcomed the ambassador, pointing out that the two countries possess many experiences in the field of water, which can be exchanged between the two countries.
He also briefed Kovács on the measures taken by the ministry to improve and develop irrigation systems such as projects to rehabilitate canals and watering cans, conversion to modern irrigation, and projects to reuse agricultural wastewater, pointing to Egypt's aspiration to continue the process of cooperation and exchange of experiences with Hungary in these areas.
Moreover, Abdel Aty reviewed Egypt's contributions to the International Coalition for Water and Climate, which is one of the international initiatives that mainly aim to achieve integration between the water and climate agendas, accelerate the achievement of the sixth goal of the sustainable development goals and the meaning of the water sector, and pay attention to developing sustainable solutions and adopting rational policies to deal with water and climate issues.
The coalition works under the leadership of a large number of international organisations, including the World Meteorological Organization.
During the meeting, Abdel Aty explained that the 5th edition of the Cairo Water Week will be held under the theme "Water at the top of the global climate agenda", pointing to the importance of this week, which will submit recommendations to the UN Climate Conference (COP27) which will be held in Egypt 2020.
Furthermore, the two sides reviewed the offers of the Hungarian companies working in the field of water, to discuss ways to benefit from the work of these companies and the modern techniques they offer in developing and modernising Egypt's water system in Egypt.
