Eastern Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Theodore II, arrived Monday at the Bole International Airport in Uganda for an eight-day pastoral visit. He was received at the airport by Metropolitan Daniel of the Diocese of Aksum (Ethiopia and Eritrea), the Greek ambassador to Ethiopia, Anna Farrou, and the high priest Chrysostmus Barberis. After a short stay, Theodore II left the airport for Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The main purpose of this visit is to honor the memory of Metropolitan Jonah of Kampala and All Uganda, who died on 5 September 2021, at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Namungoona on the outskirts of Kampala. During his visit, Pope Theodore will pay pastoral visits to his spiritual children in various Orthodox mission centers in the city of Kampala. On 14 October, he will chair the consecration of the Orthodox Church of the St. Paraskevi Monastery in Busana. The Patriarch will also visit the Diocese of Gulu and Eastern Uganda that he blessed and established it in November 2018, and he will give his blessings to all Ugandans. Theodoros is also expected to meet with Ugandan government officials and diplomatic missions.
