The Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) have signed a cooperation protocol in support of the "Eco Egypt" campaign for environmental tourism.
The protocol was signed by EEAA CEO Enas Mohamed Abu Talib, and Hisham Okasha, Chairperson of the NBE's Board of Directors, at the Educational and Cultural Environmental Centre (Cairo House).
Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad witnessed the signing ceremony during a ceremony on Monday evening, where she expressed her pleasure at the protocol's signing, as it reflects a new beginning for environmental work in Egypt.
The NBE's support makes it a strategic sponsor for the campaign, and one of the most important national banks for environmental actions and the promotion of ecotourism locally and globally.
The minister added that Egypt's environmental file has witnessed many important transformations during the current period, including support from the financial and banking sectors for environmental actions.
Fouad emphasised that environmental work will not achieve its goals without the solidarity of all sectors, the most important of which is the banking sector, to be supportive of work and green investment in Egypt.
These efforts are to create a conscious national economic climate that contributes to protecting the environment and natural resources.
She added that the NBE is considered one of the most important partners for environmental work in the banking sector, which works to open the door for more national partners in this sector.
The NBE is one of the first banks to cooperate with the ministry in several fields, such as pollution reduction projects through the industrial pollution control project. Here, the bank supports factories with soft loans to ensure they are environmentally compatible, according to the Ministry of Environment.
The Eco Egypt campaign comes in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It aims to support ecotourism and natural reserves. and raise environmental awareness among citizens.
