Egypt condemns violence by extremist Israeli groups in Jerusalem
Egypt expresses its deep concern over escalation of attacks, provocative actions against residents of Jerusalem

Egypt has condemned the acts of violence and incitement carried out by extremist Israeli groups targeting Palestinian residents in the Old City of East Jerusalem.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt expressed its deep concern over the escalation of attacks and provocative actions against the residents of Jerusalem. This has taken place since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry stressed the need for the Israeli authorities to assume their responsibility in accordance with the rules of international law, and to provide the necessary protection for Palestinian civilians
Egypt demanded that anything that could prejudice the right of worshipers to freely access the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque be put to an end.
The ministry also called for the cessation of any violations against Arab, Islamic, and Christian identities in Jerusalem and its sanctities, and a change in the existing historical and legal status.
A total of 105 Palestinians have been injured in clashes with police and Israeli settlers in East Jerusalem, which lasted until dawn on Friday.
On the other hand, the Israeli police announced that they had arrested more than 50 Palestinians during these confrontations, which were focused in the vicinity of the Old City. Observers described the clashes as the fiercest in the city for several years.
The Israeli right-wing association, Lahava, announced, on Thursday evening, its decision to mobilise its members to attack Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
As a result, the Israeli police pushed hundreds of their personnel into the vicinity of the Old City of Jerusalem.
Palestinian youths in East Jerusalem organised a demonstration to protest against the police presence, which led to clashes between these demonstrators and the Israeli army at the entrance to the Old City.
