Environment Ministry allocates landfill cell to quarantined village's waste
Village is currently under isolation after several COVID-19 infections were detected

The Ministry of Environment's Waste Regulatory and Management Authority announced on Wednesday that is allocating an area at the Shabramant landfill to the waste from Al Moatamadeyah village in Kerdasa, Giza, which is currently under a 14-day quarantine following the positive diagnosis of coronavirus cases there.
The decision is aimed at preventing further spread of infections through the village's waste.
Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad has inspected the Shabramant landfill and instructed using quicklime to cover the village's waste. A car has also been assigned to disinfect the equipment used in transporting the village's waste to the landfill area.
According to a ministry statement, various measures must be taken when isolating a city or village where coronavirus infections are spotted. Fouad said her ministry is dealing with the village's waste as hazardous waste.
Workers dealing with the waste byproducts will dig a hole, which will lie downwind, at the landfill big enough to handle the amount of waste generated by the village. The quicklime will line the bottom of the hole with the area big enough for the waste to be generously covered on top.
All waste collection workers are taking the necessary personal preventive measures and using protective equipment during their work.
