Egypt quarantines Giza village for 14 days under efforts to stem spread of coronavirus
Published in Ahram Online on 07 - 04 - 2020

Egypt said it has quarantined a Giza village starting Tuesday for two weeks under instructions by the health ministry to stem the spread of coronavirus in the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Giza Governorate said it will impose a two week quarantine on Kerdasa's El-Meatamdeya village for two weeks to preserve residents and families' health.
It stressed it will undertake a number of measures to facilitate diurnal lives for residents, including delivery of medications to chronic diseases patients and providing ambulances to transfer any emergency cases to hospitals.
The governor has ordered vehicles be dispatched to the village to sterilize and disinfect houses and streets.
It's unclear if any coronavirus infected cases have been infected in the Giza located village, however, Egypt has quarantined in the past weeks a number of villages after detection of cases in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus.
Egypt reported nine new deaths on Tuesday, its highest toll in a single day since the first case was detected in the country in mid-February, as well as 128 new cases, bringing the total to 1,450 cases and a death toll of 94 nationwide.
The populous country is bracing for a curfew extension this week after it surpassed the milestone of 1,000 coronavirus cases on Saturday.
The increase in cases has come despite unprecedented restrictions to stem the spread of the virus amid fears that the medical facilities in the country, which has a population of 100 million people, will be overwhelmed.
