Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met his Kenyan counterpart Rachel Umamu on Thursday, to discuss boosting bilateral relations and other topics of mutual concern.
The meeting was on the sidelines of the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union's Executive Council on 6-7 February in Addis Ababa.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez said Shoukry congratulated Umamu for assuming her new position last month.
He also expressed his aspiration to continue cooperation and coordination between the two countries, praising the improvement in bilateral relations since the visit of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Kenya in February 2017.
He pointed that the recent successful visit of the Kenyan President to Egypt in January reflected the keenness of the two sides to cooperate in various fields. He also referred to the ongoing preparation for the upcoming round of the joint committee between the two countries.
Shoukry stressed Egypt's keenness to support Kenya in combating terrorism and extremism, taking into account the successive terrorist attacks that hit the country over the years.
Both sides expressed their interest in strengthening bilateral economic relations in view of the Egyptian tendency to achieve economic integration between African countries, and taking into account the fact that Kenya is one of the largest commercial partners for Egypt in the continent.
Hafez stated that the two ministers discussed the regional issues of common concern, as Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt's interest in supporting peace and security in Africa.
