NAIROBI, March 13, 2018 - Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday expressed appreciation to the role played by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi during the recent political crisis in Kenya, noting that President Sisi was keen on preserving the best interests of the Kenyan people, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, who arrived in the Kenyan capital yesterday, the second stop in his African tour, conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Tuesday. During his meeting with the Kenyan president, Minister Shoukri asserted Egypt's willingness to boost co-operation with Kenya in all fields and expressed congratulations for the re-election of the Kenyan president, Spokesman Abu Zeid added. Shoukri also renewed an invitation to the Kenyan president from President Sisi to visit Egypt and hold the forthcoming meeting of the joint Egyptian-Kenyan Higher Commission in Cairo in the nearest possible time. Discussions at the Kenyatta-Shoukri meeting also covered the situation in the Horn of Africa and the African Continent in general in addition to the developments of the Nile water file. President Kenyatta and Minister Shoukri asserted the two countries' commitment to work on preserving the interests of all Nile Basin countries. For his part, the Kenyan president also said that he was looking forward to closely working with President Sisi during Egypt's chairmanship of the African Union next year. President Kenyatta also asserted the depth of historical relations between the two countries and his willingness to enhance co-operation with Egypt in all domains. Foreign Minister Shoukri held another meeting with Kenyan Foreign Minister MONICA K. JUMA. Minister Shoukri's visit to Nairobi holds special importance as it comes in the light of historical relations between the two countries as well as Egypt's keenness on maintaining support to the Kenyan people in various fields of development, Mr Abu Zeid said.
