A Brazilian business delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Tereza Cristina, is visiting Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, a statement of the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) said on Wednesday, noting that the ABCC is taking part in the delegation.
The ABCC will be taking part in the delegation, which will be discussing boosting agricultural trade opportunities and food security with senior Arab officials, adding that the delegation includes 30 Brazilian companies.
The list of Brazilian companies includes Granja Faria; Masterboi; JBS; CDI Halal; Kit International Trading; Marfrig; Minerva Foods; BR Foods; Bello Alimentos Ltda; Fambras; Seara do Brasil, and other esteemed foundations, the statement clarified.
The mission aims to explore new business opportunities between Brazil and Arab countries, particularly trading in beef, poultry, sugar, corn, and coffee in order to enter the growing Arab markets, especially Egypt, ABCC's president, Rubens Hannun, said.
"This mission is in line with the Brazilian government's objectives to enhance its exports and to develop its investment relations with Arab countries. The visit also reflected the importance Brazil attaches to its major trading partners in the Arab region," Hannun stated, asserting his confidence that the meetings with senior officials will yield fruitful results.
Brazilian exports to Egypt reached $1.3bn in the first 8 months of 2019 while its imports from Egypt stood at $196.9m in the same period, the statement clarified.
Brazilian exports of poultry and meat to Egypt reached $56.35m, about 42,570 tonnes and $346.06m, about 119,340 tonnes respectively, the statement explained, adding that the Brazilian trade balance with Egypt during the same period of the year amounted to $1.1bn
Additionally, Brazil's food exports to Arab countries represents 11% of the total Arab imports, head of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) Ibrahim Al-Arabi said on 15 September at the Egyptian-Brazilian Business Forum organised by the FEDCOC.
