Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met on Sunday with a delegation of United States National Council of Churches and discussed ways to address common challenges, including confronting terrorism.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Affiars Minister Sameh Shoukry and the head of the Evangelical Church in Egypt, Andre Zaki.
The delegation included representatives of US Christian denominations. The National council consists of 38 Christian faith groups in the United States, and its foundation dates back to the 1950s.
During the meeting, Al-Sisi said that Egypt is working on upholding the principles of citizenship, combating discrimination among all citizens, and strengthening the culture of pluralism and acceptance of the other. In response to this, the delegation praised Egypt's efforts to address extremist ideas and work to consolidate the call for tolerance and co-existence among all Egyptian citizens.
Regarding confronting terrorism, Al-Sisi stressed the importance of creating concerted efforts to confront terrorism at all levels and dealing with all terrorist organisations with one standard. In addition to that, he also asserted the necessity of continually addressing the countries and entities that support and sponsor terrorism and its financing.
The members of the delegation have expressed their appreciation for Egyptian leadership and people, confirming their solidarity with Egypt to counter terrorism. The delegation further expressed their trust in Egypt to overcome the difficulties posed by the current challenges threatening the region.
