The Serb Novak Djokovic, world number one, continued to dominate all of this season's Grand Slam competitions. He was crowned champion at the US Open against Swiss rival, Roger Federer, world number two. Djokovic beat the latter in the final game with scores of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
The title is Djokovic's third this season. He has previously won the title at the Australian Open, beating the British player Andy Muray. He has also won the title at Wimbledon against Roger Federer. However, he lost the French Open final to Swiss Stan Wawrinka. The French Open is the only tournament where Djokovic was unable the title throughout his professional career.
It is the second time Djokovic wins the US Open title. His first US title was in 2011. The Serbian holds 10 Grand Slam titles in his repertoire. He won the Australia Open title five times, the Wimbledon title three times, and the US Open title twice.
Leading up to being crowned champion, Djokovic won seven games. The first was against Brazilian João Souza where he won 6-1, 6-1, 6-1. In the second round, he beat Austrian Andreas Haider-Maurer, with scores of 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. His third victories came at the expense of Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3, 7-5, 7-5. During the fourth round, he faced Spanish Roberto Bautista Agut and won 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In the final rounds, Djokovic achieved his fifth victory over Spanish Feliciano López, world number 18, in the first quarter-finals, with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6. He then played in the semi-finals against Croatia's Marin Čilić, world number nine, and won 6-0 6-1 6-2.
