Media City, 6th of October City targeted by 8 bombs
Published in Daily News Egypt on 14 - 04 - 2015

Electricity was partially restored after eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) exploded in the Egyptian Media Production City (EMPC) and some areas in 6th of October City area on Tuesday. The IEDs were targeting two electricity towers providing power supply to the areas, and temporarily cut the power from all satellite channels that broadcast from the area, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
The EMPC used power generators to resolve the power cut crisis. The electricity towers were damaged as a result of the explosions, as four IEDs were placed under each tower. The ministry noted that it will take between seven to 10 days to repair both towers, with the cost ranging between EGP 600,000 to EGP 800,000.
Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat has opened an investigation into the incident, and ordered the National Security Apparatus to investigate the incident to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Security expert General Mahmoud Zaher told Daily News Egypt the explosions were "strategic", as it happened in one of the most significant places in the country. He added that the explosions were likely to be "highlighted" by the media, and some media figures with questionable "loyalty to the country" will question "the security control over conditions in Egypt".
Zaher commented on the technique used by "the terrorists" as they target security personnel, whose jobs are to "secure vital areas" such as the EMPC.
