59 people were arrested nationwide Friday as supporters of the ousted Mohamed Morsi took to the streets after Friday prayers to protest former Minister of Defence Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's win in Egypt's second presidential elections in as many years. According to the Ministry of Interior, protesters cut off roads, fired birdshot, threw Molotov cocktails and shot fireworks at security forces, wounding two policemen and eight civilians. The arrests took place in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Fayoum, Assiut, and Damietta. The Ministry of Interior did not specify how many protesters were arrested in each area. A Giza man was arrested driving a pickup truck with six large speakers, the statement added. He was also found in possession of fireworks. Security forces dispersed a number of protests with tear gas. Security was on high-alert as Friday protests have become common occurrences as pro-Morsi protesters gather after prayers in support of the ousted Islamist leader. The Anti-Coup Alliance, the largest pro-Morsi opposition bloc, frequently organises marches that gather from various mosques around the country to call for the reinstatement of ousted Morsi and his Freedom and Justice Party government. Pro-Morsi opposition blocks called for a boycott of the elections, which they view as illegitimate.
