2 police injured, 59 arrested in Friday protests: Egypt's interior ministry
Tensions were expected following the victory of former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who led Mohamed Morsi's ouster last summer, in this week's presidential elections

Two police personnel and eight citizens were injured in clashes with pro-Muslim Brotherhood protesters Friday, Egypt's interior ministry announced in a statement.
The injuries were sustained from birdshot in Cairo's Marg and Giza governorates, the statement released on the ministry's official Facebook page read.
The statement also said limited clashes and protests took place nationwide, but the police managed to disperse them and arrest 59 protesters in Giza, Cairo, Alexandria, Fayoum, Assiut and Damietta governorates.
Those arrested were detained under the provisions of the protest law issued last November, which criminalises unauthorised demonstrations and sets hefty fines and prison sentences for violators.
Tensions were expected following the landslide victory of former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who led the ouster last summer of Mohamed Morsi after mass protests against the Islamist president, in this week's presidential elections.
Security was heightened nationwide early Friday on the back of calls by a pro-Morsi grouping for a "revolution week" to "call on the military to return to its barracks."
Fridays have become a staging point for protests by Muslim Brotherhood supporters who claim that Morsi is still Egypt's legitimate president, calling for his reinstatement.
