Ecuador's ambassador to Egypt will return to Cairo, according to Egypt's State Information Service. Ecuador had recalled its ambassador last month following the violent dispersals of pro-Mohamed Morsi sit-ins at Rabaa Al-Adaweya and Al-Nahda Squares. When announcing the recall of its ambassador, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration said its decision came because the Egyptian people had democratically selected Mohamed Morsi as their leader, adding that his removal had come with repression from the interim government. While Ambassador Edwin Johnson López was recalled, the Embassy of Ecuador in Cairo has remained operational and maintained contact with the "over 15 Ecuadorian residents" living in the country, according to the Ecuadorian ministry. August's dispersals were met with criticism from a number of other nations. Earlier this month Turkey's ambassador to Egypt returned after being recalled on 15 August for consultations. Egypt had recalled its ambassador in Turkey. Venezuela had also recalled its ambassador but subsequently reinstated the envoy. Egypt, in reaction to the recall, delayed appointing a new ambassador to the South American nation. Egypt will dispatch new ambassadors to a number of countries, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
