Haitham Mohamedein released
Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 09 - 2013

Labour rights lawyer and Revolutionary Socialists (RevSoc) member, Haitham Mohamedein was released from the Suez prosecutor's office Saturday night.
According to one of the 20 lawyers present during the investigations, Ramy Ghanem, the accusations directed at Mohamedein ranged from "forming a secret organisation which aims at shifting the structure of society, to incitement and assistance to subvert public institutions, harming social peace" among a number of other "political accusations".
Ghanem explained that the investigative tribunal was the "Supreme State Security Court of Emergency".
Mohamedein was arrested outside the city of Suez where he was on his way to meet with labour representatives. Ghanem explained that according to the arrest report, "Mohamedein raised suspicion at the checkpoint because of his beard and after he was searched several documents were found that contained anti-military remarks". He was held at the E'taqa police station Thursday before being referred to the prosecutor's office on Saturday.
"Mohamedein will be summoned to court if the prosecutors find valid cause for trial." Ghanem said.
Ghanem explained that a Homeland Security investigative warrant was set out for Mohamedein which accused him of belonging to a "Muslim Brotherhood cell within the Revolutionary Socialists."
The Revolutionary Socialists and the 6 April Movement- the Democratic Front held a protest to call for his release Saturday in front of the High Court building in Cairo.
Mohamedein released a statement after his release saying "I would like to thank all the revolutionaries and comrades in Egypt for their solidarity. All credit goes to you in the liberation of all those arbitrarily detained."
